Language Development
We strive to support language communities facing the challenge of having no written form of their language, no literature, and no access to formal education in their mother tongue. To address this issue, we assist these communities in developing an alphabet (orthography) that reflects the sound system of their language. Our team of qualified linguists, alongside trained mother-tongue speakers, work collaboratively to create a writing system that accurately represents the unique features of their language. The script is often based on the nearest mainline language. This milestone achievement is typically a significant moment for an oral society, as it acknowledges the existence of their language and provides a sense of identity and recognition. Consequently, language maintenance is promoted, and individuals within these communities experience a renewed sense of pride and dignity, leading to aspirations for progress in various spheres of life, including social, educational, and economic domains, by learning to read and write the mainline language.
